A daily horoscope is based on the day's transits: the current positions of the Sun, Moon, and planets in relation to your sun sign (or your full natal chart, in more advanced versions).
For example, if today the Moon is in Leo and you're an Aries, the text will reference how that lunar energy activates your creativity and romance sector. If Mercury is forming a trine with your natal Sun, the day favors communication.
Sun-sign horoscope vs. natal horoscope
Most daily horoscopes use only the sun sign, which is very general. All the Aries in the world receive the same text, when in reality two Aries with different Moons and Ascendants will live the day very differently.
A more personalized version cross-references the transits with your full natal chart: where each planet is today and what aspects it forms with your natal planets. That's the difference between a generic horoscope and a truly useful one.
